Weekday Branches
At each weekday branch location, LAHHS students enroll in two courses: Modern Hebrew Language and Jewish Text study. Students are grouped by their KNOWLEDGE level in the weekday branches and not by the High School grade level.
The levels of Hebrew are geared towards students from many different backgrounds including religious school, Jewish day school and students with native Israeli parents. A placement exercise is given to each new student before the school year begins to determine the most appropriate Hebrew level.
*Students with no prior Hebrew knowledge are also welcome to join
L.A. Hebrew High. In general, for the Jewish text courses students will study a different book of the Torah for each grade in 8th, 9th and 10th and then move to "Prophets" and "Jewish Law" in the 11th and 12th grades.
Sundays
The morning is divided into four forty-five minute periods with a school wide twenty minute break in between periods two and three.
Students at each grade level enroll in two core courses. The third course is a continuation of the weekday Hebrew session with the same teacher and students (part time students take “conversational” Hebrew). The final course is an elective.
Program Highlights
The core curriculum at LAHHS emphasizes Jewish text study including a variety of biblical, rabbinic, ethical, philosophical and historical texts as well as competency in Hebrew language and literature. In addition, LAHHS is proud to supplement the core classes with an exciting and intellectually stimulating array of electives as well as the Kamenir Shabbaton Retreat program at Camp Ramah in Ojai, California.

Kamenir Shabbaton Retreats - (Weekend Retreats)
A wonderful component of the Hebrew High program, students attend one weekend retreat at Camp Ramah per year. A relevant and inspiring theme is chosen and interactive programs are interspersed throughout the weekend revolving around the theme. The 2010-2011 retreats focus on the theme “From All Four Corners: The Many Faces of Israel”.
